At home with Gyda & Jonas
Gyda and her husband Jonas like it colourful, cosy, mostly bright, but sometimes pleasantly dim. Since their Wever & Ducré lighting tune-up, the couple enjoy more brightness in their Cologne period home – and their new lighting system also perfectly showcases Gyda's art. Why did the family of four want a tune-up and what else has changed as a result? Gyda reveals all this in a personal interview.
Tell us a bit about yourself, Gyda
I live in Cologne with my husband Jonas, our two children Stine and Karly, and our two dogs Trine and Fridt. I work as a freelance artist, am often in my studio during the day and look forward to coming home to our flat in the evening. It's the centre of our life: This is where we come together, have time for each other, exchange thoughts, and simply enjoy our life as a family.
What was the intention to tune up your home?
We live in a period flat on the ground floor, which was very dark before the tune-up. This is partly due to the trees in the garden, which block a lot of the daylight from entering. In addition, the flat’s old lighting was simply not ideal – it was either far too bright or far too dark. We wanted to preserve the greenery outside the front door while creating a beautiful lighting atmosphere.
How did your home change after the tune up?
The kitchen especially had too little light. Now we have a STREX track system that illuminates the entire work surface effectively. It makes cooking much more enjoyable. The new spotlights also showcase my pictures perfectly. I always pause and marvel at how beautifully my art now shines. Overall, the tune-up has given us far more light sources in the rooms, which can be dimmed so that we can create exactly the atmosphere we want at any time of day. This really adds to the quality of our living space.
